Mapster App Reviews

Shows distance! Is free!

Im thrilled. The maps look nice. I can cache them to my device! What an amazing app, for free. And the data is free, too. I am amazed. Since Apple is switching to the OpenStreetMap database, I decided I want to make sure the data is good. Therefore I intend to make contributions. I have doubts about whether this data will ever be as awesome as what Google has. On the other hand, Ive seen the power of crowd-source open projects like this. There is a lot to be said for having, say, 1,000,000 people, actively contributing. Look at Wikipedia for example! In any case, I am way impressed with this app and recommend it to you. --Eben Visher

Mapster

Easy to use... Very friendly... Combined with Google Earth was excellent combination. Thanks a million!

not a good map

Horrible mapping. they dont use the standard map format and icon. The main highways are blue! blue is for rivers. The smaller roads muddle up the screen when you zoom out. The background topo info also muddles up the screen. The major roads arent formatted well so you easily loose your track as you zoom or scroll about. This map app needs lots of work and the developers should try to use standard formats and icons. Those little elongated ovals for highway numbers dont do it.

Not very helpful

The detail when zoomed in was not great at all..... Not very user friendly

Works good for me

This does the job just right

Good map slow to load needs a touch more detail

Nice map

Nice map - simple

I have advanced maps. This one compliments those as there are times I just want to see the roads and nothing else, which this does well. I hunt and travel the mountains. This map app seems to have most of the roads I use. The only thing would be to show those no longer there as reference, as Garmin does. It makes it nice to know an old road is close, which can be hiked if needed.

Great Details

For a free app, the maps have great details. You have to know the area your looking for. I enjoy it.

Negative 5 star rating

Do not install or uninstall this old technology. This is slow and does less than whats already provided on your phone with google maps. This is like the Atari for maps. This will lower your I.Q. and degrade your gene pool. This is the time when you can throw away the map and feel no regret that you did. So trash this app...Immediately! It is things like this that make me lose hope in humanity.

waste of time

crashes everytime and most inaccurate and useless map data ever

Need to pay money...

This is a limited trial of a bad app. Stay away. Worthless mapping junk.

Making up things

I got it and looked at where i used to live for fun. Its about 300ft off from reality. Bogus app. 0 stars.

Hiker 13

Found this app was a great compliment to my paper map. Im a little fuzzy on the tile thing but found the free version provides me with enough detail to assist me in planning my hikes.

Great

Worked great for what I needed and the map is free. However, you can only download so much of the map per day. Yes I recommend this.

Crashes - resets phone

Doesnt allow a dropped pin to read an elevation

Some Drawbacks

* Not vector-based * Tiles are not retina friendly * At some distant zoom levels, cant batch download the closest zoom levels * Checking for old tiles prevents batch downloading of new ones

Old Map Data

Attractive rendering of map, but data is well over 6 months old. Openstreetmap improves on a daily basis, why software developers spend time on an attractive map display, then fail to keep to the underlying data somewhat current is beyond me.

Where is Israel?

Why dont you recognize Israel as a country? I am deleting your app

Garbage

Negative five stars! This map data is so old that a 12 year old subdivision does not show up. Imagine trying to find a new road or trail. This is crap. Do not download

Surprisingly good!

I like to go out into the woods and walk around. Not sure why, I just do. Find old footpaths and see where they go, that kind of thing. Ive probably tried around a hundred different mapping/GPS apps in the last couple of years and this is one of only 2 or 3 that I continue to find useful. No matter where I am, it finds every little trail and almost always shows me something useful and interesting without the hassle of similar apps. Im reviewing it because I think it probably gets lost in the shuffle of sleeker/better marketed/pricier apps. And thats a shame, because theres a whole hidden world of prehistory just off the side of the road, and this little app knows just how to get there.
